Loblolly Pines are extremely top heavy in adddition to having a shallow root system. This can make them very dangerous to be next to a home due to how suspectible they are to failing when subjected to strong winds.
The wood is coarse grained with marked contrast between early and late wood. It is used for lumber, paper pulp, plywood, poles, pillings and fuel. Loblolly pine is a common southern shade tree.
