Poplar
Poplar
Tree Name:
Yellow Poplar
Species:
Liriodendron tulipifera L
Height Average:
90-110 ft tall
Leaves:
Alternate, simple, 4-6 inches long and wide, smooth edged, with usually 4 pointed lobes, the outer two lobes often flattened into a squared end; yellow fall color.
There are several canker diseases that can encircle the branches and cause them to die and break off. Root rots can cause the tree to fail and wood decay fungi weakens the tree from the inside, where damage is not visible.
The wood is used for lumber, trim, veneers, flake and chip boards, plywood, core stock of furniture, paper pulp and fuel. They are also impressive shade trees for large landscapes.
